Issues with the south-west section of the New Millennium Loop Trail on November 13, 2012

I rode from the Bark Park Trail trailhead up to the New Millennium Loop Trail, then south to the Pyramid Switchbacks, looking for a landslide I had heard about a couple of weeks ago. I found the landslide, and some other trail issues along the way.

Here's the landslide I was looking for, about 15 - 20' across, and very loose

Another view of the recent landslide. This one includes my bike so you can get a sense of proportion

Brush encroaching on the inside of the trail forces people to the outside. Sometimes people go off the edge, breaking down the outside and making the trail even narrower.

Here's a closer look where bikes have gone off the outside, trying to avoid the brush. It's a scary thing to have happen to you!

A look at this corner from the other side

Because slough falling on the trail, it has become very narrow here

The Pyramid Switchbacks was the end of my scouting expedition. From there I returned to Bark Park

This is a common sight between the top of the Las Virgenes Overlook Trail and the Pyramid Switchbacks

THis tumbleweed is about 3' tall. At least it should be easy to get rid of. Maybe the next windy day will do it for us!

Again, brush growing on the inside forces travellers to the outside. It's not possible to traverse this section without rubbing against the bushes with your legs

This single bush is pushing people off the outside of the trail

This looks like a place that coyotes congregate!

Between the top of the Las Virgenes View Trail and the Bark Park Trail, the New Millennium Loop is much better, but there are still places like this one where the overgrowing brush is forcing people off the outside of the trail.
