{"id":621,"date":"2006-04-20T14:56:57","date_gmt":"2006-04-20T21:56:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.venturacountytrails.org\/WP\/?p=621"},"modified":"2022-08-08T16:41:38","modified_gmt":"2022-08-08T23:41:38","slug":"ridership-jumps-41-percent-for-thousand-oaks-transit-agency","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/venturacountytrails.org\/WP\/2006\/04\/20\/ridership-jumps-41-percent-for-thousand-oaks-transit-agency\/","title":{"rendered":"Ridership jumps 41 percent for Thousand Oaks Transit agency"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Carrying nearly 17,000 riders last month, Thousand Oaks Transit (TOT) shattered last year&#8217;s ridership mark and continues to show tremendous growth, according to Mark Watkins, public works director for the city of Thousand Oaks.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.venturacountytrails.org\/News\/Sources\/TO-Acorn.htm\">Source of this article<\/a> &#8211; Thousand Oaks Acorn, April 20, 2006<\/p>\n<p>TOT experienced a 41 percent system-wide increase in ridership, translating into an additional 4,900 trips over the previous year.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The city of Thousand Oaks is thrilled with this success,&#8221; said Watkins. &#8220;We&#8217;re pleased to see an increasing number of people taking advantage of the many benefits of public transit.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Contributing factors to TOT&#8217;s boom in ridership are rising fuel prices, school and employer outreach efforts, and targeted marketing to senior, youth and Hispanic populations.<\/p>\n<p>The city has also created a new website, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.totransit.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.totransit.org<\/a>, and placed TOT posters at local shopping centers.<\/p>\n<p>On Sat., April 22, the city of Thousand Oaks and Conejo Recreation and Park District will host the ninth annual Arbor\/Earth Day Celebration at Conejo Creek Park North, a free community event geared towards raising awareness to keep the environment healthy and beautiful.<\/p>\n<p>The day will be filled with live entertainment, food, and more than 100 environmentally-friendly exhibitors and vendors.<\/p>\n<p>The festivities begin at 11 a.m. and TOT will provide shuttle service to residents and visitors from the parking area across the street at Conejo Creek Park South.<\/p>\n<p>TOT operates Monday through Friday 6 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and offers four routes serving Thousand Oaks, Newbury Park, and Westlake Village.<\/p>\n<p>For route and schedule information, call (805) 3755473 or visit the website at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.totransit.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.totransit.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Carrying nearly 17,000 riders last month, Thousand Oaks Transit (TOT) shattered last year&#8217;s ridership mark and continues to show tremendous growth, according to Mark Watkins, public works director for the city of Thousand Oaks.
