The deadline to RSVP is May 12.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Source of this article: The <a href=\"http:\/\/agourahills.patch.com\/articles\/santa-monica-mountains-fund-to-host-mountain-lion-fundraiser\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AgouraHillsPatch<\/a>, May 3, 2013<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0 Santa Monica Mountains Fund, official fundraising partner of Santa\u00a0 Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, will host a fundraiser to\u00a0 support mountain lion research at King Gillette Ranch on Sunday, May 19\u00a0 from 2-5:00 p.m.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.venturacountytrails.org\/WP\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/4cd04380d4deff7b52470352ac832bae1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-1129\" title=\"4cd04380d4deff7b52470352ac832bae[1]\" src=\"http:\/\/www.venturacountytrails.org\/WP\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/4cd04380d4deff7b52470352ac832bae1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"271\" height=\"203\" \/><\/a>All\u00a0 proceeds will support the decade-long mountain lion study currently\u00a0 conducted by the National Park Service. Park biologists are currently\u00a0 tracking eight mountain lions in an effort to understand how mountain\u00a0 lions survive in such a fragmented, urban landscape and how best to\u00a0 conserve them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe\u00a0 good news is that advances in technology like remote cameras and GPS\u00a0 collars have allowed researchers to learn more about the behavior of\u00a0 mountain lions,\u201d said Arthur Eck, executive director of the Santa Monica\u00a0 Mountains Fund. \u201cUnfortunately, GPS collars average about $5,000, so\u00a0 it\u2019s increasingly difficult for the park to cover the cost of the\u00a0 research.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In\u00a0 addition to educational displays and a brief presentation by mountain\u00a0 lion experts with the National Park Service, the event will feature a\u00a0 live mountain lion, interactive tracking trail, silent auction, live\u00a0 music and food and wine. Nationally acclaimed artists Fred Stone and Joe\u00a0 Weatherly, as well as National Geographic photojournalist Steve Winter,\u00a0 have donated pieces for the silent auction.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0 Santa Monica Mountains Fund requests a donation of $100 for adults and\u00a0 $25 for children under 12.
