As we hike through the Conejo Canyons Open Space towards the new bridge, we come across the first of the trail enthusiasts who are exploring the trails in this area as part of the celebration of opening the new bridge

We join this group of hikers on Hill Canyon Trail who are heading up the trail we just came down
|
|

The group is being led by Ann, the head of the COSCA Trailwatch program. At the junction of the Hill Canyon and Hawk Canyon Trails, we pause to learn about the route.

Onto the Hawk Canyon Trail we go!

We have turned onto a newly cleared, unnamed trail. We have to cross a shallow creek near the beginning.

Ann points out poison oak plants for those who aren't familiar with it. It is hard to spot now because the leaves have fallen off for the winter

We had enough time to almost make it to the Western Plateau Trail, but now we've turned back to get to the bridge opening ceremony.

Turns out there's also an equestrian event here today!
