Volunteers from two Newbury Park companies, Amgen and Giant Bikes hike out to the work area on Los Robles Trail West. This section is called the Dragonback by some.

We were expecting 31 volunteers and had 37 show up. Great job! We split into three crews to work on adjacent areas. You can see the first two crews here.

A few days ago, a crew came through and cleared back the brush from the edge of the trail. The work here was to remove the residual root balls so the edges of the trail could be used for travelling.

Digging out a root ball. This was a tough one!

There were four COSCA rangers to oversee and help us.

A large stretch of the trail was covered by loose rocks. These two volunteers from Amgen were raking them off the trail.

Long sections of the trail had a rut down the middle, sometimes pretty severe. The job here was to cut down the 'berm' on the outside of the trail and pull the dirt in to fill the rut.

This is what the trail looks like after the rut has been filled in.

At the end of the workday (shortly before noon) two of the three crews gathered at the bottom of this hill, the start of the Dragnonback. This hill used to have a huge rut down the middle but crew 3 completely filled it in and removed the loose rocks. Great job!

The COSCA rangers bring back a wheelbarrow that was used to move dirt to fill in ruts. I hope they have good brakes on this Dragonback hill!
